The Devil's Nose


 
One of the attractions of Ecuador and the Chimborazo province is what was once called "the most difficult railway in the world." This train departs from Riobamba, passes Guamote and Alausí and drops "the Devil's Nose" - a very steep rock face - to the tropics of the Ecuadorean coast, finally reaching Guayaquil.

Currently the final destination of the trip is the city of Alausí. Originally the final destination was the city of Duran in the province of Guayas, but some of the tracks were destroyed and over again by landslides and derumbes and the phenomenon "El Niño" years ago. The authorities are working on the reconstruction of the railway, but the opening of the section is not complete until Duran expected in the short term.
